The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
